John attended Emmanuel College Cambridge, B.A. 1646-7, M.A. 1650 and Fellow 1649. He was ejected from the latter in 1654 probably as a result of the religious turmoil at the time. Though we have no evidence to confirm it, it seems likely that John, having married the incumbent’s daughter (see below) and their children being born there, was a curate at West Rasen in Lincolnshire until being appointed Rector in 1676. In 1693 they moved to his home parish of Wigston when he was appointed Vicar there. He retired in 1706 at the age of 80. His will was proved at Leicester 10 Apr 1708; he had lands in Wigston, Bushby, and in Lincolnshire. John left the latter to his daughter Sarah, those in Bushby to his son George, and in Wigston to his son Richard. He is buried in a vault under the altar of All Saints, Wigston, together with his wife and other members of his family. | | |
