Several children were born in Maryland, by this first marriage (Henry, Ann, Jane, Rachel and John) after wife died, Francis Dorsett moved to Chatham County, NC where in 1759 he married Rebecca McSwain. During the period 1765-1771, Francis was openly a member of the "Regulators" who struggled with the English Colonial governor Tryon. Of known children born to Francis Dorsett and wife Rebecca McSwain, there are at least John born 1760, Solomon born 1763, Henry born 1777, and Nancy. Her dates here do match up for her to be a child of David McSwain and Margaret Sargeant however. Those McSwains ended up in Cleveland/Rutherford County, much farther south of Chatham County where she met and married Thomas Francis Dorsett, but they were making their way south from PA and MD over several years and some continued south to GA. In NC Land Grants, there is a McSwine receiving 300 Acres in 1788 and 400 acres in 1782, so too late for it to be her father. Also there is a David McSwine on the Early Tax List of Orange County in 1779. These are probably a brother, son of David born 1700. | | |
