He died before July 1228 leaving "heirs" supposedly female who died before reaching marriageable age. In July 1228, Moulsford manor was committed to Bertram de Crioil, Constable of Dover, for his maintenance in the kings service during pleasure. In the following September, the grant was extended until the heir of Nicholas should come of age. John le Marshal endeavored to gain the custody of the lands and heir of Nicholas Carew in December 1230 and Crioil was disseised, but restored again in November 1234. 1 2
